Twelve Lands
a single place across every age it knew
Each land has its own map and its own life across the ages. Some are always present. Some are made and unmade. Some pass beneath the sea. Walk into any one to see its whole story.
Arda
all five ages
The world itself, changing shape across five ages, disk, then sphere, then antique map.
Aman
trees → second age
The Blessed Realm, home of the Valar, removed from the world after the Akallabêth.
Middle-earth
trees → third age
Endor, the central continent, the body of the world's story.
Númenor
second age only
The star-island that drowned itself. The Akallabêth, the Downfallen.
Beleriand
first age only
The lost world. The First Age happened here, Doriath, Gondolin, Beren and Lúthien, before the sea took it.
Lindon
first → third age
The last keeping of the Eldar. Where the ships sail West from the Grey Havens.
Eriador
second → third age
The wide empty land where Arnor fell, Bree, Weathertop, Rivendell, the silent plains.
The Shire
third age only
Four farthings of small folk who, between them, unmade the world's ring.
Rhovanion
second → third age
Wilderland, Mirkwood, Lothlórien, Erebor, the Long Lake. There and back again.
Rohan
third age
The Riddermark. Horse-lords who rode at last to the Pelennor.
Gondor
second → third age
The South-kingdom, where Boromir died, where Aragorn returned, where the West held.
Mordor
second → third age
The Dark Tower rises again. The Eye is sleepless. Mount Doom smokes.
