A craftsperson's workbench: a brushed brass sheet with a forest design laser-cut into it, a small jeweler's loupe, a soft cloth, brass off-cuts, and a graphite pencil sketch of the same forest design on graph paper, all on a dark walnut surface beside a wooden vice.

The Workshop

A small workshop for Tolkien readers.

An experiment in making something well. I admire craft, didn’t want to add another piece of junk to the world, and wanted to see if I could design a small object Tolkien readers would actually enjoy owning. More objects may appear here in time — none of them in a hurry.

The first attempt is a brass bookmark. I hope you like it.

The Ranger

A solid brass bookmark, laser-cut with a lone Ranger walking a forest path beneath a compass-star medallion. One hundred and sixty-five millimetres long, fifty wide, one millimetre thick, brushed antique plating, mounted on a black presentation card with gold-foil branding.

The medallion at the top is a small cloaked figure framed by a sun and compass-star. The body of the bookmark cuts a forest scene: two tall pines, a path winding between them, and a single ranger silhouette at the foot of the trees, walking inward.

If you’ve spent any time in the lore, you know what the figure is doing. He’s between places. He’s between the world and the wild. That’s the Ranger.

Beneath his feet, the line from the Riddle of Strider: Not all those who wander are lost. Which, on a bookmark, becomes its own kind of promise.
